74-88... *tear

I shall miss you Tigers... You had me on a roller coaster ride this season... you made me: laugh, cry, brag, steal the computer from Emily to watch a game, and get laughed at by co-workers for your sad start.

I don't know what else to say.. but I'm already excited for next spring!

Heres to the 09 season!

a day of 'shrooms.

Fall is in the air...and I couldn't be happier. Autumn is by far my favorite season and at last the days have cooled. The windows are open and the air conditioning is off. Leaving for work I am greeted by the crisp air and my yawns turn to smiles.

Our apartment smells of apples and pumpkin spice. Candles are lite and our pumpkin displays are out.

Tomorrow my friends, is the first official day of fall.
I am ready, and not a moment too soon. It is time to celebrate.

It was a great day, indeed. We went hiking at Umstead State Park and put in a good 6+ miles. The trails were gorgeous and the temperature just right. It felt so good to be outside. Great conversation and laughs to be had...

The grounds were covered in mushrooms-in every color, shape, and size- I don't think I have ever seen such variety in the mushroom family...

So, all is well over here. It's hard to believe another work week is approaching. Busy week ahead, but good things are happening, and we are content. We are eagerly awaiting October for numerous reasons-visits from family, camping with the Baldauffs, and numerous other fall festivities-it's crazy to think September is coming to an end!
Well, off to enjoy the rest of this Sunday.

Love to all.

michigan emotions

Today I will update you quite frequently as I watch the Michigan game. You will be updated on my different moods as the game progresses.

First things first, I am excited that I can actually watch a Michigan game.

However, The mood has now changed. They bobbled the opening kickoff, then fumbled the ball on their 10 yard line. We are now losing 7-0. I'm not happy.

Wow, Wow, WOW!!! This is ridiculous, Michigan can't even catch a kick. I am even more unhappy.
No way! they just scored as I was typing the last sentence.... this is not good, not good at all.

I'll be back soon, hopefully in a better mood. 11:00 1st Quarter 0-14
____
Not gonna lie... I called that fake punt. Okay, good job Michigan, now we just need a touchdown to follow it up.
____
This sucks. 4:51 1st quarter 0-21.
____
YES!!!! McGuffie is awesome. 1:56 1st quarter 7-21. My yelling woke up Bentley... whoops.
____
Nice pick Trent!
____
Alright, alright. here we go (I'm positive now) 5:41 2nd 17-28.
____
These fumbles are unbelievable.
____
Seriously, stop fumbling the ball!!! 14:50 4th quarter 17-35
____
All that was missing from this game was a silver platter... in which Michigan could have handed the game over to Notre Dame on.

I'm ticked.

Hope you all are having a better Saturday than me.

just me & my gang

what a great weekend! friday night was laid back as the storms were a brewing...the rain kept us in-along with warnings from our governor, but a little origami, some fine reading, and hourly storm updates kept us entertained for hours.
Yikes! the first attempt proved to more difficult than we anticipated.
saturday we visited John and Kristin in Fayetteville. [John and Jim were college roommates, and now John is in the army and stationed at fort bragg.] what a riot! it's so refreshing reconnecting with old friends! the food was delicious-[compliments to the chef!] and we spent the evening catching up and playing games.

sunday-church and then an afternoon at the park-an evening walk around the lake and movie at Brittany's. a perfect and relaxing way to end the day.

my boys
bentley...growing like a weed!

here's to the beginning of a new week! love to all.

Hanging with Hanna

Our first tropical storm.

We had rain on and off since yesterday afternoon, but nothing like we are getting right now.

The storm hit the coast around 3am this morning. Winds were around 45-60 mph near the beaches causing 15 foot waves (26 foot waves out off the coast a ways).

The rain truly began here around 4am or so, they say. I woke up at 4:30 and checked the latest information and listened to the wind and pouring rain for a little bit. I woke up again at 7 and the rain was still pouring (not too much fun taking Bentley out in this). We have already had 4 inches of rain and are expected to get a couple more before the storm is out of the area. It is moving fast and should be out of the state around noon.

We have flash flood warnings, but so far things seem to be okay out there. There are a few flooded parking lots in the area and there are some low areas in which officials are suggesting that residents move from their homes or apartments before some flooding might happen. Crabtree Creek is now more like a river standing 12 feet deep and carrying plenty of debris.

We are having wind gusts of about 20-30 mph. They say the gusts could uproot some trees because the ground is so saturated. However, that threat isn't much of a concern for us as the eye of the storm is out to the East of Raleigh about 40 miles.

All in all, we have faired quite well. A little wind, a lot of rain, some flooding, but not much damage (if any).

Here is what it looked like on the Doppler radar.

That is all for now, back to the sounds of wind and rain.

The Day of Labor

So this whole weekend Emily has been working, including today. I can only imagine just how busy she was at work today with it being LABOR day and all.

I, on the other hand, had the past 3 days off. I spent the first couple days reading, training Bentley, watching the coverage of Gustav, watching college football, dishes, laundry, a little cleaning, and doing some lesson planning.

Today, though, I needed to get outside. So I headed out to do some geocaching. I strategically planned my geocaching expedition so that I would swing near 2 Chick-Fil-A restaurants (one at the start, and one at the finish). Why you might ask? Well let me tell you. Today Chick-Fil-A had the best fast food promotion I have ever been a part of (some of you faithful readers might be asking "Even better than free taco day at Taco Bell that you wrote about last year?" To that I say... way better. What about free slurpee day at 7-11? No contest). All you had to do was wear the logo of your favorite football team, and you got a free 3 piece chicken strips. I threw on a Michigan t-shirt and headed out the door. I found a couple caches and then headed to Chick-Fil-A for a quick lunch. Then it was back to geocaching. The second park I went to was right across the street from another Chick-Fil-A. How convenient. After locating a few more caches, it was off to free lunch #2. Perfect. Alan, I hope I did you proud.

The day ended with 6 geocaches, and 6 free chicken strips. Not too bad.

For all you skeptics out there, the promotion clearly said "one free 3 piece chicken strips, per visit."

I decided for dinner I should be a little healthier than two fast food visits, so here is what I came up with.
It was a good and relaxing weekend, albeit quite lonely.

Here's to a four day work week!
