back home....

We're back home after a much needed vacation. We visited my grandparents in Marco Island, Florida and it was heavenly! We were given 5-star treatment. We read numerous books and fine dined and "wined" all week. We spent our days soaking in the rays, playing games, and eating way too much [it's hard to resist key lime pie and Grandma's home cooking!]

here are a few pictures from the week:

alligator alley!
sunset over the gulf.Love them! Thankfully, we'll be reunited in a week in a half!

PS. ...back to reality. Jim goes off to school tomorrow after his 3 week break and tomorrow begins my work week as well. in 8 days we're back in michigan...the countdown is on. in the meantime, we're starting to get serious about buying a house...any helpful hints are much appreciated. we have 2 months and many decisions to make before our lease expires. crazy.

well, that's it for now. we can't wait to see y'all soon.

SONICS GOT IT!

On Wednesday Val and Alan Musch swung by NC on their way to GR from Florida...We are so grateful they drove 12 hours out of their way to visit! It was a much anticipated reunion and [as always] our time together didn't disappoint.

Of our many adventures, the visit to Sonic was one of the most popular-so much so, we went twice. For those of you who are not familiar with the infamous drive-in restaurant...or oh -so-corny??? commercials, you may not have as great of an appreciation or understand the significance...[All I know is the happy hour is great-50% off slushes, sweet tea and soft drinks!-to which we took full advantage]

But, for all of those who live in GR...the closest Sonic is in Indiana....another reason y'all should visit...because NC's Got it!!!

A picture from our hiking/geocaching adventure at Lake Johnson. It was a beautiful day with temperatures in the mid 70's

oh how we value their friendship. how great it was to be reunited with friends once again! we miss you already...

other highlights of the past few days include multiple rounds of "trains" [aka Ticket to Ride], the bean game [Bohnanza], bocce ball, homemade pizza, the Office, wii bowling, Tigers, 80 degree weather and plenty of sunshine....and for some [alan and jim]...endless hours of tanks!

we said goodbye to val & al last night as they started out on their trek home. we were sad to see them leave, but look with much anticipation to the week ahead. 2 more days of work and then we're off to Florida!!! [and on a side note...thanks to Aunt Deb for finding us cheap tickets on JetBlue!] We're overly excited to see my grandparents and enjoy a week away...

and with that....it's time to hit the sack. today was day 1 of 3 in a row at work....and i'm getting old.

love!

One Shining Moment...

If you enjoy college basketball at all, you should love this video. What a tradition... it makes me wish I was an awesome college basketball player every time I watch it.

one free throw, One. Free Throw, ONE FREAKING FREE THROW!! Memphis you're killing me!

I feel better after getting that out, so thanks!

Well, it would have been a shining moment had Memphis made more than 1 out of their last 6 free throws in regulation. Unfortunately they couldn't... and Kansas took home the NCAA Championship in overtime (which also knocked me out of a chance at $10,000!!!).

So, now I have two Tigers teams disappointing me at the moment. However, I look for the Detroit Tigers to change their ways tomorrow against Dice K and the Red Sox.

Anyways, one week has already lapsed in my 3 week vacation, and the next 2 weeks are going to fly by (not literally of course.. thanks a lot for that one Skybus). Alan and Val are coming to visit from Wednesday to Friday, and we're exciting to hang out with them again! Then next Monday night we will begin our drive, yes drive, to Marco! We are very excited for that! Then we plan to get home the following Monday late at night, and we both then return to work on Tuesday. CRAZY.

Alright well the clock just struck midnight... and the "One Shining Moment" highlight video of the NCAA tournament is about to begin (One of the best parts of the whole tournament if you ask me), so I need to go. Enjoy your week everyone!

Our Lakes are FULL!

The days of dreary weather have paid off. We are still in an extreme drought situation, but our lakes are full again and things are turning green!

Saturday, April 5, 2008

cause i had a bad day...

Some things are just too good to be true....and sadly we're hitting our series of unfortunate events this weekend...
first off. Skybus. our fearless airline....flew their last flights today...because they filed BANKRUPTCY!

we're suppose to be flying on Skybus in 11 days to go to Florida AND I booked a flight with them home in June.

...and our reimbursement is questionable.

I KNEW $10 tickets were too good to be true. sadly, we found out $210 later.

secondly. my phone rang at 5:15 this morning. normally, i would be irritated when my phone rings at the crack of dawn [or before 10!] but, I was suppose to work at 7 and the phone call could only mean one thing....work didn't need me!

Ah, music to my ears. So, back to sleep we went...until I was greeted by another phone call. This time I was silently praying it was just my mother/father with a witty Saturday morning greeting. But, no....without fail....more little ones decided it was their time to make their entrance into this world....and my hands were needed at work. So, up and at um. [but, i AM grateful for those extra hours of sleep]

and...to top it off, Detroit Tigers are 0-5 and currently the worst team in the MLB.

it's been a rough 24 hours, but nothing a little mexican food, a glass of wine...a blanket and a good night's rest can't cure.

tomorrow will be a better day, and perhaps the sun will even shine.

on a positive note:

-we DO leave for Florida in 11 days. can't wait. [we'll get there somehow.]
-Val and Alan are visiting this week. a blessed reunion it will be.
-i don't have to work Sunday. a day of rest-indeed.
-UNC is making a comeback right now-go tarheels.

We truly are... in Tarheel country!

Here is a sports update for all you avid readers.... sorry, not much of a life update this time.

So the final four is set and UNC is looking strong. The news down here is revolving around the "Amazing Tarheels" and Tyler Hansbrough. Personally, I'm pulling for Memphis. However, Emily and I did head to UNC to watch the game into the Final Four at a friend's dorm. Once the final buzzer sounded, students came pouring out of their dorm rooms yelling, screaming, and clapping. This went on for about 5-10 minutes. In the middle of this time frame though, a chant of "Tar.... Heels" broke out between two dorms on opposite sides of the courtyard. I must say it was pretty cool to see and hear all the hype going on (I even partook with yelling "Tar"), but I'm still not about to change my loyalties.

More importantly, yesterday was opening day. I watched the game on MLB.TV on my computer (thanks dad). Emily took a nap on the couch as I cheered and jeered over an 11 inning game that saw huge pluses and yet, a few concerns too. Although Cabrera had an error, he made up for it with a HR. I must say I am surprised to see that the Tigs lost to the Royals yesterday, but hey, a record of 161-1 won't be bad either. At least Verlander didn't get a loss! Speaking of Verlander, some of the kids in the fifth grade at Green Hope have told me I look like him. I was quite surprised when I first heard them say it because these kids are all Yankees or Red Sox fans.... but I guess I have a whole nother season of people saying "Hey, has anyone every told you that you look like Justin Verlander from the Tigers..." Although a majority of the students and staff are fans of the Red Sox or Yankees, I have a 3rd grade girl in a reading group who is a big fan of the Tigers... it is great!

Now... we travel in a world of fantasy. Fantasy sports that is.

I am currently in the playoffs for my basketball league. I am the number one seed, but I am trailing to the number 5 seed right now (I know, it is embarrassing), but I will overcome that.

I just drafted my baseball team (actually the computer drafted it for me, but whatever). I have a few solid players, but my pitching staff is looking pretty weak... I might even lose to Alan, and Mr. Red Sox himself, Adam (yes Alan, you should let Adam know he has made it in the blog... its a big step).

As far as my college basketball brackets, I have some catching up to do. My best bracket is up on Facebook. I currently lead all of my friends, and all my teams are alive. I am in 5,000 place overall, but can easily move up if Memphis wins and UNC wins... and then Memphis beats them. That is a lot of 'ifs' though.

I think that is all I have for the wonderful world of sports today.

So I end with saying.

GO TIGERS! (both Detroit and Memphis versions)

Oh and a quick personal update for all you non-sport fans.

I have just started my three week track out! It is glorious...
Emily is working as I type.... It is Glor... (it is a shame that she, too, can't be on a break with me)

Okay, that pretty much sums us up right now I guess.

Take care everyone!

Jim
