In Loving Memory

Life has been quiet, but exciting things continue to happen here in NC. Jim continues to adapt to his job and is finding enjoyment in doing so. Last week I met with the director of the Pregnancy Support Services (PSS), regarding volunteer opportunities. PSS is a Christian ministry, (similar to the Pregnancy Resource Center in GR), which provides free services to men and women who are facing the challenges of unplanned pregnancy, or seeking post abortion recovery, and/or needing relational support. The center has the capabilities to perform first trimester ultra sounds, STD and pregnancy testing. They also have baby and maternity clothing and nursery furnishings, which they distribute accordingly. Volunteers are trained to provide peer counseling, parental support and abstinence education. Training officially begins on September 6, but until then I will be shadowing the director, who is a physician assistant. God is good! Not only has he provided me with this incredible opportunity to serve, but he also surrounded me with a group of fellow believers. One of the first ladies I met is an RN, who gladly offered to help find me a job. The second lady I met grew up in Holland, Michigan and attended Calvin College…and the third lady is good friends with a professor at Calvin. I knew God was there and had sent me to the center. I hope to begin later this week!

This week brought a roller coaster of emotions, with a low this weekend. It was one year ago today that Jim’s mom went to be with our Lord and Savior. We grieve as we are overcome with her loss, but her memories and spirit live on…

As we drove home from church today one of my favorite songs came on the radio: The Blessing, by John Waller. As we sang along Jim’s mom came to mind as her legacy continues to be a blessing in so many lives

I’ve included the lyrics below…

John Waller - The Blessing
From the album The Blessing

Chorus:
Let it be said of us
While we walked among the living
Let it be said of us
By the ones we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That we lived to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That we gave to reach the dying
Let it be said of us
By the fruit we leave behind
Let it be said of us
That our legacy is blessing for life

This day
You set life, you set death right before us,
This day
Every blessing and curse is a choice now
And we will choose to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us
That our hearts belonged to Jesus Let it be said of us
That we spoke the words of life
Let it be said of us
That our heritage is blessing for life

For your Kingdom, for our Children
For the sake of every nation

With love, Emily

Hi Jim and Emily, Last Sunday when we sat down to eat dinner, Grandma said a special prayer for you as it was the anniversary of the day Jim's mom went to be with Jesus. I have thought about you often this past week. It's back to school for teacher in-service on Tuesday and Wednesday, kids come for books on Thursday and then it's the rehearsal and Elyssa and Jamie get married Friday. I am getting my going back to school butterflies :) How great God is to provide for you in such a way, Em. I'm sure He will use you to bless and remind many that are going through issues that God is great and good. Love you! Mickey
